CCL 5 points: how the CCL test helps your skilled visa
Passing the NAATI CCL test gives you a credentialed community language qualification, which can add 5 points to the points test for Australian skilled visas.
Which visas use the points
The points test applies to points-tested skilled visas such as the Skilled Independent (subclass 189), Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) and Skilled Work Regional (subclass 491) visas. Check the Home Affairs points table for the current rules. NAATI does not give migration advice and suggests you confirm with the Department of Home Affairs or your migration agent, before you apply for the test, that the CCL test is accepted for these points.
How to get the points
- Pass the CCL test: 63 or more out of 90, and at least 29 in each dialogue (how the test works).
- NAATI sends your result by email within 4 to 6 weeks.
- Claim the points in your Expression of Interest while your credential is valid: 5 years for credentials issued from 9 August 2022, and 3 years for results issued before that.
Prepare efficiently
The test is short but strict, so preparation pays off: learn the key words for each topic, practise interpreting after a chime, and sit full mock tests. Start with our 12 tips to pass CCL and a free CCL mock test.
